Lord’s Mark Industries Limited has secured a mandate from the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) to implement solar highway lighting across 104 accident-prone and identified blackspot locations in Phase 1, as designated by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRT&H), along key national highway corridors in the Vijayawada region. The mandate is aimed at addressing critical road safety challenges in high-risk zones through targeted infrastructure intervention, with a specific focus on improving night-time visibility and reducing accident frequency at historically vulnerable locations.
Following a competitive commercial bidding process involving multiple qualified infrastructure and technology players, Lord’s Mark Industries Limited, in strategic partnership with Signify Innovations India Limited (formerly Philips Lighting India Limited), emerged as the successful bidder. The mandate covers the end-to-end execution of the project, including detailed site surveys, engineering design, manufacturing, supply, installation, and implementation of the solar lighting systems, in accordance with NHAI and MoRT&H standards and specifications.
The project represents a technology-led intervention in road safety, anchored in a world’s-first, data-driven methodology that integrates research-backed accident analytics, on-ground visibility diagnostics, and intelligent solar lighting design. Unlike conventional illumination projects that focus primarily on increasing lighting levels, this solution adopts a more scientific and outcome-oriented approach. It leverages proprietary survey frameworks, predictive risk mapping tools, and historical accident data to precisely identify structural and visibility-related safety gaps at accident-prone blackspots. The deployment is not merely about adding light, but about engineering optimal visibility outcomes by addressing critical parameters such as glare control, contrast loss, approach angles, road geometry, pedestrian movement, and driver reaction zones. This targeted methodology is designed to materially reduce accidents and deliver measurable and sustainable highway safety improvements.
The scope of work spans multiple strategic highway stretches that form key transport and logistics corridors in the region. These include Km 741.255 to Km 1022.494 on the Anakapalli–Annavaram–Diwancheruvu section of NH-16, the Diwancheruvu–Siddhantham–Gundugolanu section of NH-216, the Gundugolanu–Devarapalli–Kovvuru stretch from Km 15.320 to Km 85.204 on NH-16, and the Kathipudi to the start of the Kakinada Bypass from Km 0.000 to Km 27.500 on NH-216. Collectively, these stretches represent some of the most critical and high-traffic segments within the Vijayawada highway network.
The Vijayawada mandate constitutes the first phase of a larger pan-India programme that Lord’s Mark Industries Limited plans to execute over a four-year period. As the initiative scales in subsequent phases, the programme is expected to cover national highways across multiple states, enabling the systematic deployment of technology-enabled solar lighting and safety systems at accident-prone locations nationwide.
Commenting on the development, Sachidanand Upadhyay, Managing Director, Lord’s Mark Industries Limited, said: “Securing this mandate through a highly competitive bidding process is a strong validation of Lord’s Mark’s data-driven approach and execution capabilities. This project goes beyond infrastructure creation; it represents a meaningful shift towards technology-enabled road safety solutions. Our partnership with Signify Innovations brings global expertise into the programme and significantly strengthens our ability to deliver scalable, future-ready solutions aligned with national safety priorities and sustainability goals.”
For Lord’s Mark Industries Limited, the award marks a strategic milestone, reinforcing its positioning in public infrastructure, sustainable solutions, and technology-enabled safety systems. The mandate also creates a scalable platform for long-term growth through large, government-led programmes, while contributing meaningfully to national efforts focused on improving road safety, reducing fatalities, and enhancing the resilience of highway infrastructure across India.
